Medical Coding Certification
There are many medical coders out there that are working on a day to day basis without certification. You might ask yourself how this is possible, doesn’t everyone have to get certified before they are actually allowed to medically code? The answer to that question is no, a medical coder does not have to be certified in order to hold a stable job, and code for many medical offices, and law firms.
Even though you don’t have to get certified in order to be a medical coder, that doesn’t mean that getting your medical certification doesn’t help you. Many members go through a organization called the AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders), which is the top of the mountain when getting medical certification. If you get your certification through the AAPC you can expect to see a lot of things happen differently in your career.
For one your pay rate will have a boost. and also you will be at the top of the list when people are looking for medical coders. In studies done by the AAPC they have seen that, coders that have received there coding certification have received an average of a 20% more pay rate then average medical coders without certification.
Like I have said above even though this certification is not required for you to be able to get a coding job, most companies look for coders out there with the certification. So it would be in your best interest to go ahead and get the certification, to not only speed up your job placement but also receive more money as well.
Another thing that is important for medical coders out there is that if you do go for this certification that you are apart of a training program. There are many different schools out there that will aid you in getting ready to take these types of certification exams, and they will even more prepare you for your career.
